The significance of choosing heat-treated wood for your pallet needs cannot be overstated. With the global transportation of pallets, there’s an inherent risk of untreated, imported wood harbouring pests that can pose a grave threat to the local tree population and the entire ecosystem. In response to this concern, the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, introduced the International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures No 15 (ISPM15). This pivotal standard serves to harmonise global phytosanitary measures by specifying approved treatments to eradicate organisms harmful to forests.
ISPM15 treatment, applied to timber pallets, is not only natural but also environmentally friendly, as it doesn’t involve the use of chemicals. This heat treatment (HT) process entails placing pallets in a drying chamber or kiln where the wood undergoes heating. Crucially, the core temperature of the wood must reach a minimum of 56°C and be sustained for at least 30 minutes. This rigorous procedure ensures the elimination of all harmful organisms that could potentially harm local vegetation.
Compliance with the ISPM15 standard is evidenced by the branded marking on each individual pallet, providing assurance of its safety for use in Brisbane’s unique ecosystem. It’s also worth noting that ISPM15 is a globally recognised standard with 182 countries committed to its compliance.
By opting for ISPM15 heat-treated pallets for your Brisbane operations, you not only prioritise environmental responsibility but also safeguard the local ecosystem from potential threats, making it the prudent choice for your pallet requirements in this vibrant city.
